This group of pottery shards are from the southwest, as no known specific locations are known; 21 pieces in all. Examples include several pieces of Ancestral Puebloan culture polychrome and black, white and black, and gray and black. Several pieces are made using the coiled rope method where the outside surface is still rough indicating an early pottery made for utilitarian purposes. Several pieces are decorated on the inside only, while others are decorated on both sides inside and out. There are several colors of clay indicating several locations for clay sources, as well as different painting designs. This lot spans a considerable time-line for pottery making methods. This single walnut display case is a treasure for examination of human existence in the Southwest United States. From the Gary Bracken collection. 10 in. X 12 in. Please see photo for details.
