Lot of over 100 unissued stocks, most still attached to the ledger, for the Southwestern Coal & Improvement Company, which was a subsidiary of the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railway. The coal mines were located in Coalgate and Midway, Oklahoma, which were Indian Territory at that point. Commercial exploitation of the coal resources was made possible by the railroads, starting with the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas RR in the 1870s. Certificates are unsigned and for 100 shares. They feature a green border with a vignetted of miners working underground at upper left, and a smaller railroad vignette at the bottom. All are datelined New York, 18--. Condition on the group is very good overall, with light toning or folds on a minority of certificates.
