This is a souvenir medal commemorating the 21st (National) encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic dated 1887. The proceeds from the sale of this medal were for the Grant Memorial Fund. This medal is highly tarnished and no attempt to remove patination has been made. The GAR is the predecessor to the Sons of Union Volunteers of the Civil War (SOUVCW). The SOUVCW replaced The GAR after the last Civil War veteran died. J.M. Davis Arms Museum provenance.
