This cannon is dated 1702 with the coat of arms of King Philip V of Spain casting at the breach, made of bronze. 1702 would be the onset of Queen Anne's War which polarized English, French, and Spanish colonies in North America. This cannon was thought to have come from a Spanish fort rather than a ship. The overall condition of the cannon confirms that theory. It measures 34 in. in length with a 50 mm bore. In excellent condition. Built with trunnions and two wedding bands for cordage and ease of transport. The carriage is 56 in. overall length, 20 in. high, 27 in. wide and the wheels are also at 20 in. The carriage is contemporary 20th c. and has a bar at the tail to support a glass table top at 30 in. X 60 in. beveled glass. No FFL required. This is a muzzleloading cannon with a touch-hole in a beautiful shell-shaped pan where a glowing ember punk on open powder was used for ignition; similar to the matchlock ignition on earlier shoulder arms of the period. This could be a coffee table for your family room, office, patio, or a dock signal cannon. Estimated weight is 200 lbs. Recommended for local pick up. Additional freight fees apply.
