Model of a war ship in ivory in enclosed glass case with wood base. The ship itself is 16" long and 12" tall, 4.5" wide. This is a spectacular, detailed model, constructed of ivory and brown wood or baleen. Cabinet made by David Air, New York. Ornately constructed with brown thread rigging. The only damage is the lower center and rear mast lower beams are broken, easily fixable. Each plank is a separate piece, greatly enhancing the overall character. Probably nineteenth century construction. With three decks of cannon, this ship strongly resembles the western European war ships of the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The ship's figurehead is a lion, which was the figurehead of Henry VIII, which would place this ship in the mid-1500's. With ivory construction, this wonderful and historic piece cannot be sold in California, and some states may have restrictions on its import. We cannot ascertain the source of the ivory, as this is an obvious antique. Please check with your state restrictions on ivory imports, if any prior to bidding. IMPORTANT: THIS IS A FRAGILE ANTIQUE. You should consider picking it up in person. State: City: HWAC#: 43639 Date:
