Exceptionally rare. This exact piece was sold by FH in 2008. There are no known used examples. Baird 328. Drawn and Engraved by TC Boyd, No. 149 Clay Street, SF. "All orders should be addressed to JW Sullivan, San Francisco." Vignette shows a well-dressed prospector/mine investor about to enter a cornucopia with the Devil waiting inside. Behind him is a mining camp with "Washoe Silver" printed. Along the side of the cornucopia are the names of several mines including the Ophir Lead, Comstock Lead, Central Lead, Mexican Lead, and more. The entrance is labelled April 1860. The exit is labelled June 1860, and the prospector crawling out is now disheveled and ragged. 9.25 x 11.75" Folds, light wear. This is perhaps the only Nevada lettersheet, published a year after the initial Comstock discovery. No references were found to the lettersheet in newspapers of the era. It is certainly worthy of professional framing. It belongs in the most advanced private or institutional Comstock collection. You will never see another!
