This is a single stock certificate for 30 shares of the Spencer Arms Company issued in 1884. The stock is issued to L. A. Bartlett, President of the Spencer Arms Company. Extremely rare find in stocks issued to the president himself and co-signed by the secretary Fred. M. Peck. Condition is fair with staining at the fold. A beautiful vignette of two pump action shotguns and a scene of three bird hunters in full field dress and a retriever delivering a bird. A pressed seal in the lower left corner is marked Spencer of New York with two crossed long guns. In 1882, the Spencer Arms Company ( a new company) of Windsor, Connecticut produced the Spencer Pump-Action Shotgun. This shotgun was the first commercially successful slide-action (or pump-action) shotgun. Spencer's company and patents were purchased in 1890 by Francis Bannerman & Sons of New York who continued to manufacture this shotgun until around 1907. Fred M. Peck was also be Recording Secretary of the NRA during its founding years.
