This Civil War Spencer carbine, model 1860, has the saddle ring slide and chambered for .52 cal. called .56-56. The s/n 36217 indicates mid-range production 1863-1865. The barrel is marked "Spencer Repeating. Rifle Co. Boston, Mass., Pat'd March 6, 18xx", in three lines. The overall length is 39.25 in. barrel length at 20.375 in. The bore is bright with minimal rifling. The barrel and action have a blue to silver-gray patination, with the trigger-plate having the best bluing. The stocks are walnut with original finish and one barrel band, the lock and magazine tube work properly. The rear sight is the ladder type. Overall very good condition.
