An unusual specimen from the Wushan Spessartine Mine. Pyrite (iron sulfide) is not commonly seen as an associated species on the spessartine specimens from this locale. On this specimen, it is the dominant mineral species. The pyrite crystal exhibits simple cubic form, brilliant luster, brassy metallic color and is perched on the edge of granitic matrix rock covered with bright orange spessartine garnets, mica booklets, and small smoky quartz crystals. The aesthetics of the specimen are superb and the overall condition of the piece is good. Note: the pyrite crystal has been professionally repaired onto the matrix rock in two places. Dimensions (cm): 9.6 H x 9.5 W x 5.5 D. Location: Wushan Spessartine Mine, Tongbei, Yunxiao Co., Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province, China City: State: China Date: HWAC# 53061
