254 , issued until dec 31, 1900 to Mr. A.D. Page Bridge Engineer, G.N. (Great Northern) Ry. signed J.J. Hill president on grey card stock, stamped "good on freight trains" , printer not named. The Red Mountain was created by Daniel C Corbin an American Financier., as an extension to his Spokane Falls & Northern Railway (S.F.&N.R) to carry ore from his mines. He was intending to expand SF&NR into Canada. Canada did not want an American influence in the rail system and built the Nelson & Fort Sheppard Railway (N&FSRY) to meet the SF&NR at the border. It was originally to reach the coast, but was never completed that far. Ron Lerch Collection
