Very early 1858 stock certificate transfer for the Spring Place Mining Company of Georgia. Number 45 to Jesse Carter for two shares. From agent LC Deas. 3.5 x 10". The "THE SPR' has been written over at some point in this stock transfer's life. A large tear had destroyed these letters. Some holes, Edges are strong. The Spring Place Mining Company was formed in 1854. [Acts Passed by the General Assembly of Georgia] Along with the Tocoah, the Spring Place Mining Company was the first in Murray County. [Murray County Museum online] Includes an envelope was addressed to Colonel James A R Hanks at Spring Place. He was the assistant quartermaster. It was forwarded to Dalton Georgia and hence a very strong Spring Place cancel is found in the upper left. Hanks served on the staff of the 22nd Georgia and was discharged for disability on June 1862. Spring Place was the home of a famous Cherokee Mission which was founded in 1801.
