This early Wisconsin company operated at Douglas, Superior County, and this certificate was signed by Rufus Choate and Caleb Cushing as trustees. Small separations at fold ends, else very fine. Rufus Choate was a lawyer, orator, and US Senator who represented Massachusetts as a member of the Whig Party. He is regarded as one of the greatest American lawyers of the 19th century, arguing over a thousand cases in a lifetime practice extending to virtually every branch of the law then recognized. Caleb Cushing was a Democratic politician and diplomat who served from 1831 to 1834 as a congressman from then as a US Senator from 1841 to 1845. He served as the 23rd United States Attorney General under President Franklin Pierce from 1874 until 1877. Cushing was later appointed the United States Minister to Spain.
