The Louisiana Purchase Exposition, commonly known as the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, marked the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase and ran from April 30 to December 1, 1904. Spanning 1,200 acres in Forest Park and adjacent grounds, it showcased scientific and industrial innovations, cultural exhibits from more than 60 nations, and popular entertainments such as the debut of the ice-cream cone and early x-ray demonstrations. The fair symbolized America's technological optimism and imperial reach at the turn of the century while attracting over 19 million visitors.
