This is a stampless cover from Major Scott to a Major General P.F. Smith (Persifer Frazer Smith Commander of U.S. Forces in California) in his own writing. A second letter is marked :"from the Army-Mexico" with a 10 cent rate stamped on the face postmarked New Orleans April. A block print engraving of Winfield Scott is 7 in. X 10 in. depicting the General in his Mexican-American War attire. M. G. Scott fought in the War of 1812 through the Civil War an was affectionately known as "old Fuss and Feathers".
