Organized in Ohio. Stock no. 50, issued for 63 shares to AF Brooks in Cleveland in 1875. Signed by John D Rockefeller as president and HM Flagler as secretary. Lightly pen cancelled. Black border and print with vignette of the Capitol Building. Maverick, Stephan & Co. 6.5 x 14.75" with stub. Folds, some toning and discoloration. John D. Rockefeller was an American industrialist and philanthropist who founded the Standard Oil Company in 1870, which quickly grew into the dominant force in the U.S. oil industry. Through aggressive business tactics, vertical integration, and strategic partnerships, Standard Oil gained near-monopoly control over oil refining, transportation, and marketing. The company became the focus of public and political backlash for its anti-competitive practices, leading to the landmark 1911 Supreme Court decision that broke Standard Oil into 34 separate companies under the Sherman Antitrust Act. Despite this, Rockefeller became one of the wealthiest individuals in history and devoted much of his later life to charitable causes, particularly in education, science, and public health. Henry Flagler was a co-founder of the Standard Oil Company in 1870. He later was a key figure in the development of the Atlantic coast of Florida and the Florida East Coast Railway.
