$5 Constitutional Bond of the State of Louisiana issued in 1879. Signed by acting governor Samuel D. McEnery, who would also become a US Senator. Also signed by the state treasurer, Edward A. Burke who was the first Democratic treasurer elected after Reconstruction and also had to flee to Honduras due to allegations of misappropriating state funds. Signatures not cancelled. Bond is stamp cancelled on the reverse. Four vignettes including one showing paddleboat steamers. Thirty-two coupons attached. 16.5" x 10" Printed by ABN. Folds with some toning.
