$2000 loan taken out by the state with the Mississippi Union Bank on June 5th, 1838. Signed by Governor A. McNutt and treasurer James Phillips. Two eagle vignettes, plus paddlewheel steam boats and allegorical figures. No printer noted. Ten coupons attached, plus separate sheet with more coupons. McNutt served as governor from 1838 to 1842, being elected in 1837 and reelected in 1839. McNutt was a member of the Democratic Party and is known for initiatives like establishing a state library, supporting women's property rights, securing land for a university, and completing the state penitentiary. 10.75 x 15" Rough edges, some discoloration.
