The steamer Commodore Vanderbilt became the flagship for the North Atlantic Mail Steamship Line. At the onset of the Civil War, President Lincoln on April 16, 1891 order the blockade of all Southern ports & coastline. The Secretary of War was authorized to purchase commercial vessels to accomplish the blockade. In April of 1873 the Vanderbilt was decommissioned and sold to Howe and Company who renamed her Three Brothers. (Photo included in this lot) Excellent condition. 8" x 5".
