Vintage postcard of the Alaska Steamship Company's S.S. Farallon, named after the islands off the coast of San Francisco. Alaska has its Farallones island chain in the Cook Inlet, and ironically this was where the steamship met its fate January 5, 1910. This postcard comes with a copy of the history of the ship, the disaster and the crew's survival while waiting (30) days in harsh winter conditions to be rescued. The postcard photo is by J.E. Thaites. Taken about the time of the rescue, it shows the severe ice build-up all over the ship. (Prag Collection)
