Stella Shutiva handmade, corrugated pot with lid. Hand painted design on handles. 5" high x 5.5" diameter. Pot has a sight crack from one handle to the rim. Otherwise the pot is in good condition. Stella Shutiva (1939-1992) of Acoma Pueblo was a well-known potter who specialized in recreating the corrugated wares of prehistoric times. Her mother, Jessie Garcia, is credited with reviving the corrugated ware, and inspiring Stella to continue in her tradition. In 1973, Stella demonstrated pottery making at the Smithsonian Institution where she studied its collection of Acoma pottery with "the goal of combining a feeling of the past with contemporary designs."
