A stereoscope card with photos of a hydraulic mining operation in California, photographed and published by Lawrence and Houseworth, opticians. The photos are dated 1866. They depict a man standing on a wooden platform operating nozzles spraying water while another man inspects the sprayed ground, possibly picking out nuggets. No sluice boxes or jockey boxes for controlling the nozzle are present; thus, the nozzles are likely stationary. The stereographic photos are mounted to a stiff card that bears the text "California" and the title of the images, "Hydraulic Mining -- Behind the Pipes". The reverse of the card bears the name and address of the photographers. [ San Francisco California
