The Most Important Banking Building in California! This stereo card shows the building at 148 Montgomery Street in San Francisco. This was the imposing Parrot Building, built by banker John Parrot, and was the center of banking in early California. Constructed of granite blocks shipped from China, the building was completed in 1852. There were originally two banking firms headquartered here including Adams & Co. and Page, Bacon & Co., both of which failed in the disastrous financial crash of 1854-1856. John Parrot started his own bank here in 1855 and Wells, Fargo & amp; Co. moved here the same year. Later the building survived the 1906 earthquake until it was finally razed to make room for the Financial Center Building. Today the Omni Hotel occupies the site. Center crease barely affects the images. Card has modest wear.
