There are four pieces of stone or pottery in this lot. Each piece has a consistent texture indicating a firing rather than flaking or grinding to shape. The firing of a clay would yield a stone with a fine texture in order to survive the firing process. One piece appears to be a half of a marble at 1.25 in. in diameter; another piece is shaped like a mushroom with a short stem at 1.5 in.; yet another piece is about 2 in. in diameter with stains of red filed into grooves. The real purpose of this piece is unknown. Possibly used to sharpen an iron point or knife indicating a late usage among Native Americans; & a pottery shard at 2.5 in. flat with a cross hatch scribed line decorative design. All pieces have been found in the Henderson & Union Counties of Kentucky. From the Bracken collection. Please see photos for details. [ Kentucky
