Patent model(?) for a stone polishing device invented by Mrs. Gertrude S. (Reynolds) McMullen in 1909. Brass components include a 16.5-inch tall square pillar with rulings on 1/16th of an inch and two sliders that can be positioned up and down along the pillar. Each slider has a pivoted jig that appear to have held a cylindrical rod at a specific angle, as indicated on the rotating scale from 0 to 90 degrees. The logo of a cat (tiger?) appears on this pivot with the initials // S.T. Co //. This is the Southwest Turquoise Company, where McMullen developed this gem and stone-cutting device. It's precise operation is unknown to us, because many of the original pieces are no longer attached. Stamped on the base of the device is // GERTRUDE S. MCMULLEN / INVENTOR / PATD-6-15-09 //.
