Colorado Springs and Suburban RW. Low number 9, issued for 10,000 shares to Cripple Creek mining millionaire WS Stratton on Sept. 27th, 1901 in Colorado Springs. No Stratton signature. Signed by vice president DH Rice and secretary William Lloyd. Not cancelled. Not endorsed on the reverse. Brown border and corporate seal, black print, and fabulous vignette of a streetcar with the company name on the side. Printed by Out West Printing & Stationary Co., Colorado Springs. 8 x 11" Folds, clean. The company was formed when Stratton purchased Colorado Springs Rapid Transit Railway in 1901 and consolidated it in 1902 with the Colorado Springs & Suburban Railway Company. It operated in Colorado Springs, its suburbs, and Manitou Springs. It operated from 1902-1932. Stratton discovered the Independence Lode near Victor, Colorado on July 4, 1891, and became the Cripple Creek district's first millionaire in 1894.
