Hide is stretched on decorative metal rack, and has been painted with a scene of an Eskimo and his kayak and a seal lying nearby. Also included is a model of a kayak. Complete with model eskimo with harpoon, line, and spear. Good luck wooden figure of whale strapped on back. The kayak is covered with sealskin and sewn with reindeer sinew. Eskimo kayaks (small boats with covered decks) were originally made by stretching sealskin over whale bones or driftwood frames. The main use of an Eskimo kayak was for hunting, and seals, walruses, birds and even reindeer were all hunted using kayaks at sea. And include in this lot are a spear and a pole and a modern point on leather cord with carved bone on the other end. City: State: Alaska Date: ID# 37346
