Mid to third quarter 19th century classic strongbox, also known as a floor safe. Hinged top door, with gold and black trim on deep red. Not all paint remains. Heavily insulated, considered fireproof. Handles at ends of 2 long sides. No maker name present. 14x9.5x8". These strongboxes were routinely placed in secret places-under floorboards or a closet for very safe keeping.
