Unissued and cancelled stock certificate #603 for Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Co., South Bend, St Joseph, IN. Green border, vignette of 2 men working with metal. Established 1852. American automobile manufacturer based in South Bend, IN. Founded in Feb., 1852 and incorp. 1868 as Studebaker Brothers Manuf. Co. Originally a producer of wagons for farmers, miners, and the military. Began producing autos in 1902 with electric vehicles and in 1904 with gasoline vehicles, both sold with the name "Studebaker Automobile Company." 1st gasoline cars to be fully manufactured by Studebaker were sold starting in Aug. 1912. They always had a repetition for producing a good product. Merged with Packard in 1954 after having financial difficulty to form the Studebaker-Packard Corp. Financial problems worse than the Packard executives had thought and Packard withdrew their name. Name returned to Studebaker Corp. name in 1962. Operations ceased on Dec. 20, 1963.
