Unissued stock certificate #24 for Studebaker Brother Manufacturing Co. Grey border, gold comp. seal. Vignette of eagle on roof. American car manufacturer based in South Bend, IN. Founded in 1852 and incorp. 1868 as Studebaker Brothers Manuf. Co. Originally produced wagons for farmers, miners, and the military. Auto production began in 1902 with electric vehicles and in 1904 with gasoline vehicles, both sold with the name "Studebaker Automobile Company." 1st gasoline cars to be fully manufactured by Studebaker were sold starting in Aug. 1912. Company always had a reputation for producing a good product. Merged with Packard in 1954 after having financial difficulty to form the Studebaker-Packard Corp. Financial problems worse than the Packard executives thought and Packard withdrew their name. Name returned to Studebaker Corp. in 1962. Operations ceased on Dec. 20, 1963. Last Studebaker produced on May 17, 1966 at plant in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Co. defunct Nov, 1967. Printed: GOES. Prag collection.
