Lot of 5. The Summit Mill was located at the north end of Virginia City. In 1866, it was reported as having 20 stamps, 11 Wheeler pans, and a crushing capacity of 35 tons a day. It shutdown in 1870 and was dismantled in 1872 (Ansari). 1-2) Two Bank of California checks with "Summit" printed in the background. One is issued in 1868 and signed by N. Mason as superintendent. The other is issued in 1869 and signed by CB Smith. Both have Nevada and US IR adhesive revenue stamps. 3-5) Three Bank of California checks without underprint; company name written on signature line. Issued 1866-69; one signed by Mason, the other two by Smith. One is issued to HC Kirk & Co., who were druggists in Virginia City. Two have NV and US IR adhesive revenue stamps; the other just has a US IR stamp.
