An original sign from the rail line to the Sutro Baths, a historic bathing complex in San Francisco gifted to the city by engineer, philanthropist, and one-time mayor Adolph Sutro. Sutro, who made his fortune in mining, is perhaps best known for the construction of the Sutro Tunnel which allowed for the mining of the Comstock Lode. The baths sadly burned down in 1966, but were an iconic San Francisco landmark and beloved attraction for decades. The framed 17.5"x14.5" sign reads "SUTRO BATHS / School Children / ADMITTED FREE / Every Saturday between 7 A.M and 6 P.M / FREE SWIMMING LESSONS / TO ALL BATHERS / Every Day, Except Sunday, between 7 A.M. and 12 M. / THIS CAR GOES DIRECT". Excellent condition, some extremely light discoloration/staining at bottom; see photos. Ready to hang.
