Lot of 9. Includes: Sutro Tunnel Co. letterhead, 1870s, unused; 1870s unused receipt; 1870s partial cross-section; and six copies of a rare 1869 newspaper broadside. The Sutro Tunnel was a 19th-century engineering project driven by Adolph Sutro to drain water and ventilate the deep Comstock Lode mines in Nevada. Construction began in 1869 and the nearly four-mile tunnel finally reached the Savage Mine in 1878, providing crucial drainage and a safer working environment for miners. Though it was hailed as a major achievement in mining technology, it proved less profitable than hoped, but remains an iconic part of Comstock mining history.
