Tallant & Company, Banker First of Exchange cert. No. 4306, duplicate, issued June 8, 1866 for $1125.00 to Messrs(?) Wotherspoon Bros(?). Stamped 'The National Bank of the State of New York, New York.', datelined San Francisco, California. Red print. Creases. 4 x 8.75". Blue, GW IR 2-cent stamp (top left), and red California State Tax $2 revenue stamp (left center) - this CA revenue stamp is actually the wrong stamp, as the $2.00 tax is for values between $500 to $1000 with the check being made out for $1125.00. This is rare!-FH. Tallant & Wilde established as a private bank in 1850 during the California Gold Rush. Wilde died in 1863 and John McKee, cashier, joined Tallant to become Tallant & Company.
