Nice pair that shows the evolution of this California Gold Rush banking firm. 1) Tallant & Wilde, Bankers, Second of Exchange issued July 3rd, 1857 for $1,000 to William Shreve. Creases. 3.5 x 8" 2) Tallant & Company, Banker Second of Exchange issued August 1st, 1870 for $48 to Abbie P. Ritchie. Red print. Creases. 4 x 8.75" Tallant & Wilde established as a private bank in 1850 during the California Gold Rush. Wilde died in 1863 and John McKee, cashier, joined Tallant to become Tallant & Company. They incorporated as a state bank in 1891.
