Nice pair that shows the evolution of this California Gold Rush banking firm. 1) Tallant & Wilde, Bankers, Second of Exchange issued November 19th, 1855 for $50 to William C. Brown. Creases. 3.5 x 8" 2) Tallant & Company, Banker Second of Exchange issued March 9th, 1870 for $49 to Abbie P. Ritchie. Red print. Creases. 4 x 8.75" Tallant & Wilde established as a private bank in 1850 during the California Gold Rush. Wilde died in 1863 and John McKee, cashier, joined Tallant to become Tallant & Company. They incorporated as a state bank in 1891.
