Really neat Western Union Telegraph Company Notice for a message sent from Virginia City to Adolph Sutro. Message received in Elko, September 19th, 1870. Message is as follows: "Communication suppressed when will you return you are wanted." They were having secrecy problems! Signed by James J. Robbins. Robbins is not listed in the 1868 Nevada directory. He appears in the 1871 directory and is listed as an attorney. Given that he also doesn't appear in Thompson & West (1881), he was probably not in Nevada for very long. Measures 7.75" x 5.5." Folds and light toning.
