Temple of Edfou, the ancient Appolinopolis of Upper Egypt. The antique Lithograph is after the landscape painting by David Roberts R.A. (1796-1864, born in Stockbridge, near Edinburgh) and was created by Belgian engraver Louis Hague (1806-1885) and published by F. G. Moon in London between 1842 and 1849. Framed and matted, 23" x 29", lithograph, 15.5 x 22".

David Roberts, Scottish painter. By 1832 Roberts had established a reputation as an important architectural artist. "Egypt and Holy Land" series, lithographs by Louis Haghe, who would figured prominently in the success. The Belgium-born Louis Haghe is the un-sung hero of the art works. Haghe followed Roberts's original sketches closely. Each print often required more than one stone (all done in reverse to the original) to capture different tones, e.g. black, white, ochre, and pink or tan.
