Fabulous lot of 10 Gold Rush covers and letters. 1) 1854 stampless ('10') letter from Sacramento City. "...and was much surprised to learn that Jimmy Shanks died on his way home this side of Panama." 2) Stampless (red '5)' cover from San Jose to Mrs. Dr. A B. Metcalfe of San Francisco. Care of Judge Mr. Henry. Staining. Opened roughly. 3) Marysville stampless (black '5') cover from 853. Datelined Sacramento River. "...unemployed and get to thinking over my miserable situation..." "...expect to have lost a (?) fortune since I have been here..." From Girdner(?). Tears and rips. 4) Stampless cover shipped "per Steamer Carolina". 1850 letter (duplicate) from Howard Green sent from San Francisco on December 11, 1850. Talks about withdrawing money from several people's account. 5) 1853 stampless letter from Marysville. Partial. Large hole where wax was applied. Sent from Morris Ravine which is just north of the Feather River on the other side of Oroville. 6) Red stampless (10) cpver from Sacramento City with a black New York forwarding cancel. 7) Stampless (paid 6) cover from Washington DC to Attorney-at-Law (?). 8) Stampless (stamped 'paid' and handwritten '10') from North Bloomfield.9) Red circle stampless (black 'paid') cover from Boston Massachusetts to Sacramento California. c1851. 1) Small stampless (paid 5) cover from Middletown. Handwritten date of 1854 on cover. Overall condition is good: some opened roughly, some rips and tears, etc. City: State: California Date: c1850's hwac# 35159
