Assessment receipt from the San Francisco office for the Independent Gold & Silver Mining Company, June 22, 1864. Received of WC Ralston, $1,000, being one half assessment of ten dollars per share on 200 shares. Signed by Chas. Sanger, acting for secretary. 4 x 7.5" Not signed by Ralston. We have sold stocks for this mining company. It was located on the Chrysergos Ledge, Genesse District, Douglas County, Nevada Territory. The Genesee District was located 40 miles south of Virginia City, on the east side of Carson Valley, 20 miles east of Genoa. WC Ralston co-founded the Bank of California with DO Mills. At the time of this assessment, he had just sent William Sharon to manage the Comstock branches. They would begin their takeover of the mining district over the next 5 years before Fair, Flood, Mackay & O'Brien ended their monopoly. Ralston also co-founded the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. He died, perhaps by suicide, in 1875 in San Francisco. [ Douglas County Nevada
