A holographic legal document, undated, written by Judge George Turner, a Lincoln appointee. Having taken office in Sept. 1861, he and other members of the Territorial Supreme Court flamed out in 1864. Turner wrote this opinion relative to a pair of territorial statutes following the Territorial Legislature session of 1862. He was a young attorney in Portsmouth, Ohio when President Lincoln appointed him chief justice for the new territory. Then, in Nevada, the public lost confidence in the court, and in August 1864 Turner resigned and took all of his papers with him. Those papers have never surfaced among collectors, making this document extremely rare. Turner was a notoriously poor public speaker, believed to have been lampooned in 1863 by Samuel Clemens writing as "Josh." 12.5 x 8"
