Incised design. 5.5 " Tall, 6.5" diameter at widest part. 3" mouth, 2.5" diameter at base. Beautiful example of authentic New Mexico Pueblo blackware with visible marks from the traditional method of polishing the pottery by rubbing the raised portions while wet. This piece has been used, not just on display and is unsigned indicating this piece may be an actual artifact used in the pueblo rather than a piece intended for sale to tourists. The artists of Santa Clara Pueblo and San Ildefonso Pueblo, have been making traditional blackware (reduction-fired earthenware) for many years using a coarse-grained clay body decorated with deeply incised or excised designs.
