This CdV is of Texas Jack; born John Baker Omohundro and originally from Virginia. He went west after the Civil War and drove cattle out of Texas. Hence the sobriquet Texas Jack. He scouted for the army during the Indian Wars with Buffalo Bill Cody and had to receive a special dispensation because of his Confederate history; (he was a currier for J.E. B. Stuart). He became a national celebrity in Ned Buntline's dime novels. He met an untimely death by pneumonia at the age of 34 in Colorado. Today you will find his name in the National Cowboy Hall of Fame receiving the Wrangler Award as an original working cowboy and actor. The card is in good condition with good contrast, a corner missing upper right. From the Theatrical Photography Co. in Philadelphia. Robert Coelln Collection
