#41 issued 1876 to L P Barton, Complimentary, signed Gen. Supt., tan card stock, "1876" center, large red print, Hosford & Sons printer. Chartered 1871 to build from Marshall Texas to San Diego, Cal. Failing financially, In 1879 Jay Gould organized a syndicate to financially back the RR to continue construction eventually reaching Sierra Blanca but not before SP which resulted in a lawsuit "Gould-Huntington Agreement" of 1881. T&P never made it to Calif. RR continued until merged in 1976 w/Missouri Pacific.
