This is the ultra-rare amber Thaxter from Carson City. Thought to be only three or four known, it is one of the great Nevada rarities. The bottle may date to the late 1870's or perhaps 1880. It must have had a specific content, though newspaper advertisements didn't reveal the contents. It is 9" tall. Thaxter ran his business in Carson from 1878-1903. He moved to Redlands, California in 1893 and opened a store there, also with an embossed drug bottle. This specimen is x-Haddock and Holabird, the one pictured in Ghost Towns and Medicines, p357. It has very light stain, never touched by cleaning. State: Nevada City: Carson City Date: FHWAC#: 43620
