Two identical heart shaped silver-colored metal bookmarks, one with a red and one a green string and tassel attached to the top. Although The Crystal was not found specifically in Cripple Creek, its location there make sense in due part to its location on Bennett Ave. Tents and cabins began to spring up and a mining district was organized in the Cripple Creek area in1891. Denver real estate men Horance Bennett and Julius Myers owned much of the land in the area, so they platted eighty acres for a town site and began selling lots. Cripple Creek quickly began establishing many businesses such as saloons and brothels. Initially the houses of "ill-repute” were located along Bennett Avenue, the main street of the town. The "ladies” were then moved one block south to Myers Avenue, which became known as the Red Light District. Known as one of the liveliest streets in the Old West, the phrase "There'll be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight" was coined on this street filled with brothels, dance halls and saloons.
