Early oil piece. Inc. in New York. No. 225, issued for 50 shares to Sarah E. Hilton on April 13th, 1877. Signed by Lyman Cook as president and John Balester as secretary. Not cancelled. Allegorical vignette at center. Printed by Maverick & Wissinger, NY. According to Engineers & Engineering Vol. 1-2 (1880), the company developed a process to use crude oil as a fuel in the manufacture of blooms at an iron works facility in Titusville, PA.
