Leather trunk recovered in two pieces from the debris field of the S.S. Central America shipwreck. The trunk was owned by Ansel & Adeline Easton, two newlyweds who were traveling to New York on the ill-fated voyage. The heavily tanned leather survived more than a century on the seafloor, and the contents of the trunk have provided a snapshot of 19th century fashion. In these two images, the bottom portion of the trunk is on the far left, the top of the trunk is in the middle, and the stabilizing frame and interior pieces are on the far right.

Provenance: SS Central America Collection
