Naumkeag Passenger Enumerator, very rare. In the early days of trolleys the conductor would take the fares of the passengers. As you can imagine not all the money made it to the company. The Naumkeag counter has gears inside that count every time the button is pushed as the fare is taken and the bell ring letting the passengers and company know how many passengers boarded. In excellent condition, probably around 1876. Predates the counters at the entrance to trolley.

Included is a photo of conductors wearing one, which had a large leather neck “belt”and a history of how it came about. Deriving it’s name from the company Naumkeag Passenger Railway. Naumkeag was the original name for Salem until it was renamed in 1628.
