Cert. #669, issued in 1904 to James W. Bell for 50 shares. Inc. in Maine. Signed by W.W. Appel as president and A.A. Jackson as secretary. The company's properties consisted of two claims, the Ida Mitchell and the Gold Bug, located within the limits of the city of Placerville. The property was opened up about 30 years prior and was well known to area residents. Worked in a primitive way, about $75,000 of ore had been taken out of the property during that time. The company was working on building a mill around 1903 (United States Investor, 1904). Possibly a scam. An article in a Lancaster, PA. newspaper stated that about 20 from Lancaster were taken in by promoters to visit a "salted mine" at Placerville, Cal. The promoters encouraged the visitors to pick up the gold nuggets scattered about. Unc.City: PlacervilleCounty: El DoradoState: CADate:
