This company, led by Loveland, had the same intent as MM Pomeroy and the Atlantic-Pacific Tunnel Company: driving a tunnel through the Divide for transportation and mining purposes. They organized the Loveland Pass Mining & Railroad Tunnel Company in 1881 and drove the tunnel for around a year while UPRR considered what to do with GB&L. When DSP&P reached Leadville in 1882, Loveland suspended work on suspicions that GB&L would not be extended into Summit County. Loveland was correct about GB&L proceeding no further, but Pomeroy
continued his project anyway.
